History: | Name proposed in 1963 by A. S. Post, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), because the relatively recent retreat of Guyot Glacier formed another branch on the west side of the Guyot Hills. The name is derived from the Yahtse River, which at one time may have flowed into Icy Bay in this area. |
